The SL Ginga operates on the Kamaishi Line, which has steep slopes and long tunnels, and uses special carriages that have been modified from the Kiha 141 series used by JR Hokkaido as passenger cars.
Each carriage is painted with illustrations of the constellations and animals that appear in "Night on the Galactic Railroad," and a planetarium is installed on board.
- Newly produced reproduction of the Kiha 141 series used on the SL Ginga
- The seats are reproduced as three-dimensionally as possible to recreate the lounge and counter installed inside the cars
- Car number and markings are printed
- Kiha 143-701 is a powered car, and is equipped with a speed adjustment mechanism for coordination with the C58 series
- The front end of the Kiha 143-701 and Kiha 142-701 is equipped with a TN coupler (SP) and an Arnold coupler adapter included
- Please use the Arnold coupler when coupling with a C58-239
- The head and tail lights are equipped with a constant-light board and an ON-OFF switch
- The head and tail lights are illuminated by white LEDs
- The headlights are illuminated in a color close to incandescent light thanks to the use of a color prism
- Uses a power source with a flywheel
- Uses a new current collection system and silver wheels
- Uses an M-13 motor
