The 923 series is an electric track comprehensive test car for the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen, manufactured in 2000 to run at 270km/h and to replace the aging 922 series. It is a 7-car train based on the 700 series, with cars 1-3 and 6 being used to test electrical equipment, car 4 being used to test track equipment, and the other cars being used as meeting rooms and tour guide rooms. The body color is yellow with blue stripes, which is different from the general Tokaido Shinkansen cars, and it is affectionately known as "Doctor Yellow."
- A full 7-car formation can be recreated by combining this product (cars 1, 2, 3, and 7) with the <98481> add-on set
- Car number, side car number, roof car number, and JR mark are printed
