Originating from the rugged 1-seater buggies that tore through dirt tracks across the U.S. during the 1980s, the Grasshopper was introduced to RC stores in 1984. Its hallmark was easy assembly and straightforward control, earning it instant acclaim as the quintessential entry-level RC kit. Additionally, its compatibility with an array of optional parts like the 540 motor and ball bearings ensured that the Grasshopper, despite being a beginner's vehicle, could keep pace with the owner's evolving driving skills.

What truly set the Grasshopper apart was the seamless blend of uncomplicated assembly and a resilient exterior. The sturdy plastic body securely fastened to the bathtub resin monocoque chassis with screws formed a robust frame, capable of withstanding rigorous handling. Negotiating off-road tracks became effortless with the inclusion of coil spring dampers, independent swing axle front suspension, and rigid axle rear suspension. The diff loaded sealed gearbox played a vital role in maintaining smooth driving and cornering by effectively warding off dirt and stones. Paddle-style rear tires and grooved front tires, coupled with 3-piece assembly type wheels, delivered exceptional grip performance on dirt tracks. The half-body driver figure was the perfect finishing touch, enhancing the appeal of this thrilling off-road R/C car.
