Tamiya Subaru Impreza Wrc'98 24199

Subaru introduced their 4WD sedan Legacy to the 3rd Safari Rally as part of the WRC in 1990. However, they later replaced it with their new compact machine, the Impreza, for the 1000 Lakes Rally starting in 1993. This new machine underwent numerous modifications to become a World Rally Car as it was subject to a wider range of modifying regulations compared to group A cars. These modifications allowed Subaru to become a top contender in no time. The Impreza featured blister fenders extended to 177mm, a front spoiler to cool the radiator, and a rear wing to generate downforce - all based on wind-tunnel testing. Its horizontally-placed, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine delivered over 300 horsepower and was positioned as far back as possible, with an air-cooled intercooler at the front. Additionally, the front and center parts featured electronically controlled active differentials operated by hydraulics. In 1998, the engine underwent further modifications, such as the crankshaft and intake manifold. The front grille was widened to take in more air, and a roll bar was added to the B-pillar, resulting in a more sturdy body. Colin McRae, Piero Liatti, and Kenneth Eriksson were some of the drivers for Subaru. McRae achieved victories in the 4th race in Portugal and 6th race in Tour-de-Corse, demonstrating the high potential of the Impreza in the WRC.
