Released in October 2000, the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (R34) was a refined evolution of one of Japan's most iconic performance cars. This Tamiya 1/24 scale kit faithfully recreates every detail — from the distinctive NACA duct bonnet and enlarged rear wing to the accurately modelled V-Spec II brake discs. Flip it over and there's just as much to admire: a realistic multi-link suspension, 4WD drivetrain, and a diffuser rendered in clear parts make the underside a showpiece in its own right.

Building Tips

• Replicating Bayside Blue: If using TS-44 Brilliant Blue, spray over a base of Tamiya Fine Light Grey Primer. Grey primer gives the metallic flake a deeper, darker, more accurate automotive finish than a white base.
• Carbon Fibre Diffuser: The V-Spec II features a large rear underbody diffuser. Paint it XF-1 Flat Black or X-18 Semi-Gloss Black. For ultimate accuracy, apply aftermarket 1/24 scale carbon fibre weave decals over a black base before clear coating.
• NACA Duct Masking: The V-Spec II bonnet features a signature triangular NACA air duct. Take extra care when spraying primer and colour coats to avoid pooling paint inside this recess, which can soften the sharp, scale-accurate edges.
• The Quad Taillights: The R34's round taillights are a signature feature. Paint the reflective housing with X-11 Chrome Silver first and allow to dry completely, then glue the clear lens painted with X-27 Clear Red on top for a bright, deep, realistic lens effect.
