Tamiya Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9
Presenting the Tamiya Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9 model kit, a remarkable reproduction of one of Germany's most renowned fighter aircraft from World War II. After the successful deployment of the Focke-Wulf Fw190A series over the English Channel in 1941, the German RLM sought a high-altitude version to complement its fighter fleet. This led to the development of three projects. The Fw190B, featuring a B.M.W. 801 turbosupercharged radial engine and a pressurized cockpit, had limited production. The Fw190C, equipped with a powerful 1,750hp Daimler Benz DB603A in-line engine, had three prototypes. The third project utilized the Fw190A airframe and incorporated a lengthened fuselage to accommodate the V-12 cylinder, liquid-cooled, 1,750hp Jumo 213 engine. After successful initial flights in 1941-42, five more prototypes were created, followed by the production of Fw190 D-Os converted from standard Fw190A-7 airframes. These pre-production aircraft were then followed by the Fw190 D-2 through D-8 variants. The Fw190D-9, which entered production in June 1944, marked a significant milestone. Early versions featured a flat-topped canopy, while later models from W. Nr. 210002 onwards boasted the Galland hood, or blown canopy. In September 1944, the Fw190D-9 entered combat with III/JG 54 Grunherz (Green Hearts) at Achmer, Germany, providing top cover for the newly introduced Messerschmitt Me262 jet fighters. This Tamiya model kit faithfully captures the essence of the Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9. With precision-engineered parts and exceptional attention to detail, it offers an immersive building experience.
