Tamiya 35268 1/35 Scale Sd.Kfz.223 Leichter Panzerspahwagen (Fu)
The Tamiya 35268 1/35 Scale Sd.Kfz.223 Leichter Panzerspahwagen (Fu) is a model of a German light armored car used in World War II. The vehicle was first created in 1935 and produced from 1935 to 1944, with approximately 2,150 units built. The Sd.Kfz 221/222/223 series of cars had a Horch V8 engine with 80-90 hp and were armed with either a single 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun (Sd.Kfz 221) or a 20 mm KwK 30 cannon and an MG34 machine gun (Sd.Kfz 222). These vehicles were designed as the primary reconnaissance vehicles of the Wehrmacht, especially for its mechanized and armored units. Despite having armor of only 8-14.5 mm thickness, they possessed excellent off-road capabilities and high mobility. After 1941, the vehicles were further improved with a more powerful Horch 8V engine, which increased their horsepower from 80 to 90. The Sd.Kfz 221 had a two-person crew and was armed with only a machine gun in a rotating turret. It was soon replaced by the Sd.Kfz 222, which had a KwK 30 cannon and a crew of three. The front armor of the Sd.Kfz 222 was also strengthened, increasing its thickness from 8 mm to 14.5 mm. The last version, the Sd.Kfz 223, was a radio communication vehicle armed with a single MG34 machine gun. These vehicles saw service on almost all fronts of World War II, and were particularly active from 1939 to 1943.
