The Fighter That Outclassed the Spitfire
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 served alongside the Messerschmitt Bf 109 as one of Germany's primary fighters from the middle stages of WWII through to the war's end. The A-3 variant caused a shock when it entered service, outclassing the RAF's Spitfire Mk.V and forcing the Allies to accelerate development of the Spitfire Mk.IX. Fast, heavily armed, and powered by a distinctive BMW radial engine, the Fw 190 remains one of the most formidable fighters of the war.
