In May 2017, the Bundeswehr launched an ambitious upgrade program for its Leopard 2 fleet, producing the formidable A7V variant. Built on the A7 platform, the A7V delivers significant advances in survivability, firepower, and battlefield awareness — making it one of the most capable main battle tanks in the world today. A total of 104 tanks were upgraded, with the first reaching active units in September 2021.

• Efficiency: More powerful Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and new turret rear basket
