Revell 07713 1/24 Scale Trabant 601S "Builder's Choice"
The Trabant is an East German mini passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1956. Its serial production was carried out in the years 1957-1991. The car was powered - in the 601 version - with a 2-cylinder engine with a displacement of 0.6 liters and power from 23 to 26 HP. In total, about 3.1 million cars of this model of all versions were built. Production took place in the GDR at the VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke plant in the city of Zwickau.
The Trabant was developed and put into production as a successor to the AWZ P70 car. From the very beginning, it was designed as a vehicle that is as cheap and easy to manufacture as possible, and easy to use. One of the most characteristic features of the Trabant was its body made of plastics, which reduced the weight of the vehicle and improved its corrosion resistance. The car was also characterized by a relatively spacious interior and a relatively economical and small engine. Several versions of the Trabant were produced in the course of production, mainly the P50 / 500, P60 / 600 and Trabant 601. The latter model entered production in 1964 and was the longest-produced version of the Trabant. Undoubtedly, the Trabant was one of the most recognizable cars in the GDR, and its production made the GDR one of the most motorized countries of the Eastern Bloc.
