Revell 04297 1/48 Scale Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress - Memphis Belle (American Ww2 Bomber) Plastic Model Kit

The Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber used by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. It was a development of the B-17B and B-17C models, with improvements in defensive armament and other areas. The B-17F had a crew of ten and was armed with up to 13 .50 caliber machine guns. The B-17F entered service in the summer of 1942 and was used extensively in strategic bombing missions over Europe. It was especially effective in the daylight precision bombing campaign against German industrial targets, but suffered heavy losses due to its lack of fighter escort. One of the most famous B-17F bombers was the Memphis Belle, which completed 25 combat missions and became the first U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bomber to complete 25 missions and return to the United States. The Memphis Belle and its crew became symbols of the bravery and sacrifice of American airmen during World War II. By the end of the war, more than 8,600 B-17 Flying Fortresses had been produced, with several variants being developed and deployed in different theaters of operation. The B-17F played a significant role in the Allied victory in Europe and remains an important icon of American military aviation history.
