Academy 12606 - 1/144 Scale Sepecat Jaguar
In 1965, a joint venture was established between Great Britain and France to build an advanced training and attack aircraft. The result of this collaboration was the SEPECAT Jaguar, an aircraft that was initially intended only for school purposes by the Royal Air Force. However, as the years went on, it was also utilized for assault tasks. The French Air Force was also in need of a new aircraft to replace their old training planes and attack aircraft. Breguet's Br 121 project was selected, and the resulting joint venture was named SEPECAT. The first prototype of the Jaguar took off on September 8, 1968, but delays caused by co-operation problems meant that it didn't enter service until 1972. The Jaguar is armed with two fixed 30mm ADEN single-barreled cannons and can carry a variety of bombs, missiles, and rockets. It has an elongated hull with a large oblique tail, intakes for two rectangular jet engines, and a high wing configuration. The maximum speed of the Jaguar is 1700 km/h, and its maximum range is 3524 km. A total of 573 Jaguars were built, with 403 for England and France, 54 for Oman, Ecuador, and Nigeria, and 116 for India (70 produced under license). Despite minor differences in production equipment between the English and French versions, the Jaguar remains a highly capable aircraft.
