Academy 12627 - 1/144 Scale Usmc F/A-18A+ Vmfa-232 "Red Devils"
Listen up, folks. This is about the McDonnell-Douglas / Northrop F / A-18 Hornet, a bird that can do some serious damage in any weather. The F / A-18's roots go back to 1974, when the US Navy brass took an interest in the F-17 prototype. They signed the contract for the serial construction of the aircraft in 1976, and to speed things up, Northrop teamed up with McDonnell-Douglas. The prototype took flight on November 18, 1978, and a year later, it was landing successfully on an aircraft carrier. Since 1982, these babies have been delivered to linear units with General Electric F404-GE-402 engines as the propulsion unit. Now, there are a few versions of this bird. The first were the F-18A (fighter) and F-18B (training). Then came foreign orders from Spain, Canada, and Australia. In 1987, the F-18C was created, adapted to the use of AMRAAM missiles. A year later, the F / A-18D, a two-seater that can be used as an attack aircraft, entered service. On its basis, the reconnaissance version of the R / F-18D was created. The newest versions are the Super Hornets - F / A-18E and F / A-18F. They're heavily modified versions of the F / A-18D, with a longer fuselage, wingspan, and surface area. They've also got new General Electric F414 engines and advanced avionics. They were first shown off in 1995. The EA-18G Growler electronic warfare plane was also created based on the F-18. Pilots love these birds. They've got a low failure rate, they're easy to use, and they've got great flight parameters. Hornets took part in the operation against Libya in 1986 and in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Now, here are some technical details for the F / A-18 C version: Maximum speed of 1915 km / h, speed of climb of 254 m / s, practical ceiling of 15,240 m, maximum range of 3340 km, operating radius of 280-740 km, and they're armed with a single 20mm M61A-1 six-barrel cannon and can carry up to 7700 kg of cargo.
