Academy 12607 - 1/144 Panavia Tornado
The PANAVIA TORNADO aircraft design originated in 1968 with the establishment of the trinational PANAVIA consortium to implement the MRCA (Multi-Role Combat Aircraft) project. The first prototype flight took place on September 14, 1974, and the production of the ordered 640 aircraft commenced, with Germany and Great Britain each completing 42.5%, and Italy 15% of the order. Tornado fleets are the backbone of the air force of three European NATO countries, namely Great Britain (Royal Air Force), Italy (Aeronautica Militare Italiana), and Germany (Luftwaffe), as well as in the German Navy (Marinefliege). Additionally, Saudi Arabia ordered a number of these aircraft in 1986 and incorporated them into its armed forces (Royal Saudi Air Force). There are three primary versions of the Tornado aircraft: the Tornado ECR, Tornado ADV, and Tornado IDS. The Tornado ECR is a German/Italian reconnaissance version, equipped with Raytheon AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles, and AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles for self-defense. The Tornado ADV is an interceptor version, fitted with the Marconi-Ferranti Foxhunter radar with a range of up to 190km and capable of simultaneously tracking up to 20 targets. The Tornado IDS, on the other hand, is an assault bomber primarily designed to support land forces. It can carry a wide range of weapons, including CWS flying cartridges, Paveway II and GBU-15 guided bombs, and AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missiles. In terms of technical data, the ADV version has a length of 18.68m, a maximum wingspan of 13.91m, a height of 5.95m, a maximum speed of 2.27Ma, a rate of climb of 77m/s, a practical ceiling of 21300m, a maximum range of 1850 km, and armament consisting of one IWKA-Mauser 27mm cannon and up to 8500 kg of suspended cargo.
