Academy 12450 1/72 Ju-87G Stuka "Tank Buster" Plastic Model Kit

Behold, the Academy 12450 1/72 Ju-87G Stuka "Tank Buster" Plastic Model Kit! This model pays tribute to the Junkers Ju-87 Stuka, a German dive bomber aircraft with a classic tail and inverted gull-wing configuration, constructed entirely from metal. The Ju-87 is renowned as one of the most iconic aircraft of the Luftwaffe, standing alongside the Me-109 in symbolizing its power. During the initial stages of the war from 1939 to 1941, the Ju-87 gained notoriety as a symbol of the Blitzkrieg. The aircraft's acoustic sirens, known as the "jerycho?skie trunks," generated a distinctive sound during its diving flight, often causing panic among enemy soldiers. The Ju-87 was designed by Hermann Pohlmann, and made its first flight in 1935, with production beginning two years later. The aircraft's steep diving capability, combined with a relatively low speed, resulted in high bombing efficiency, making it a formidable weapon in conflicts in Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, France, Greece, and Crete. However, during the Battle of Britain, the slow Stukas with fixed landing gear were no match for the faster and more agile RAF planes, and as a result, they were relegated to attacking less defended targets. During the Eastern Front battles, the Ju-87 primarily played a role as a close support aircraft and an excellent tank destroyer. One of the most distinguished Luftwaffe pilots, Hans Ulrich Rudel, had a record of destroying 519 Soviet tanks while piloting the Ju-87. Throughout the war, the Ju-87 underwent numerous modifications and a dozen or so different versions were created. The Ju-87B (Berta) was the first mass-produced version, powered by two versions of the Jumo 211 engine with 1000KM or 1200KM. It was used as a land-based dive bomber. The Ju-87R (Richard) was designed for attacking naval targets, with greater range than the B version but slightly slower. The Ju-87D (Dora) was the most extensively produced and modified version, featuring new versions of the Jumo 211 engine with 1420 and 1500HP, and better armor than its predecessors. The Ju-87G (Gustav), the last large-scale version of the Ju-87, entered line units in early 1943 and was designed as an attack aircraft and "tank destroyer." Its main weapons were two 37mm Bordkanone BK 3.7 cannons mounted under the wings, and it boasted improved armor. Approximately 5,900 units of all Ju-87 versions were manufactured during the war. Technical data for the Ju-87B version included a length of 11m, a wingspan of 13.8m, a height of 4.23m, a maximum speed of 390km/h, a maximum range of 500km, a maximum ceiling of 8200m, and armament consisting of three fixed cal .7.92mm machine guns and up to 450 kg of suspended bombs.
