Which Shock Oil?

Which shock oil you should use for your RC car?

When it comes to tuning the handling of your RC car, one of the most important considerations is the oil you use in your shocks. The oil you choose will have a big impact on how your car handles, and there are a few things to keep in mind when making your selection.

First, it's important to understand that shock oil is rated by weight. This means that the oil's viscosity is expressed as a number, such as 10wt or 100wt. The lower the number, the thinner the oil, and the higher the number, the thicker the oil. Thicker oil will provide more resistance to compression, while thinner oil will be easier to compress.

For most RC cars, a good starting point is to use oil that is in the range of 30wt to 40wt. This is a good all-around weight that will provide a good balance of traction and handling. For more grip, you can use a thicker oil like 50wt or 60wt, while for less grip and more stability, you can use a thinner oil like 20wt or 25wt.

Another factor to consider is the temperature of the track you will be running on. If you are running in hot conditions, you may want to use a thinner oil to reduce the risk of the shocks overheating. On the other hand, if you are running in cold conditions, a thicker oil may be more appropriate to provide more resistance to compression.

Lastly, you should also consider the track conditions you will be running on. For tracks with high-speed sections and jumps, using a thicker oil in the shocks will provide more stability and help to keep the car in control. In contrast, for tracks with lots of tight turns and technical sections, using a thinner oil will provide more responsiveness and help the car to turn more easily.

So, when choosing the right shock oil for your RC car, you should consider the track conditions, temperature, and your driving style. A good all-around oil to start with is 30wt to 40wt, and adjust accordingly depending on the situation. Always test different oils and settings to see how the car reacts, don't be afraid to make small changes to fine-tune the handling. With the right oil, you'll be able to get the most out of your RC car and enjoy a great driving experience.
