Team Losi Racing - RC History

Team Losi Racing, also known as Team Losi, is a manufacturer of radio-controlled cars and trucks. The company was founded in 1984 by Frank Root and his son, Todd Root, in Southern California. The company was originally known for its 1/10-scale off-road buggies and trucks, but has since expanded to include a wide range of vehicles, including 1/8-scale buggies and truggies, short course trucks, and even 1/5-scale gas-powered vehicles.

Throughout the years, Team Losi Racing has sponsored many professional RC racers and has had a strong presence in the RC racing community. Some of the most notable accomplishments of Team Losi Racing include:

  • Winning the first-ever IFMAR 1/10-scale Off-Road World Championship in 1985 with driver Mike Reedy
  • Winning the first-ever IFMAR 1/8-scale Off-Road World Championship in 1986 with driver Mike Reedy
  • Winning multiple ROAR National Championships and IFMAR World Championships in various classes
  • Developing and producing the first-ever 4WD 1/10-scale off-road buggy, the JRX-4, in 1988
  • Developing and producing the first-ever 4WD 1/8-scale off-road buggy, the LXT, in 1999

In recent years, Team Losi Racing has continued to innovate and produce high-quality RC vehicles for racers of all skill levels. The company is a well-respected name in the RC racing community and continues to be a major player in the industry.

On 2021, Horizon Hobby, LLC, announced that it had acquired Team Losi Racing and the company will continue to operate as a separate brand within Horizon Hobby.
