Katyusha multiple rocket launchers are a type of rocket artillery first built and fielded by the Soviet Union in World War II. Multiple rocket launchers such as these deliver explosives to a target area more quickly than conventional artillery, but with lower accuracy and requiring a longer time to reload. They are fragile compared to artillery guns, but are inexpensive and easy to produce.
Katyushas of World War II were usually mounted on trucks. This mobility gave the Katyusha another advantage: being able to deliver a large blow all at once, and then move before being located and attacked with counter-battery fire.
This variant BM-13NM uses the postwar chassis ZIL-157 and was produced from 1958 to the mid-1960s.
Paints Required
This kit uses rigid styrene plastic — paint with Tamiya Acrylic Mini (XF series) for brush painting. All colours below match the standard Soviet military scheme for the BM-13NM.
Vehicle Body & Launcher Frame
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-13 J.A. Green — primary Soviet military green for the truck cab, chassis, and rocket launcher frame
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-58 Olive Green — shadow colour and variation on lower body panels
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-57 Buff — dry-brush highlight over the body for a faded, weathered finish
Running Gear, Tyres & Details
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-69 NATO Black — tyres, exhaust pipes, and rubber details
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-1 Flat Black — deep shadow areas, grille, and undercarriage
- Tamiya Acrylic Mini XF-52 Flat Earth — mud and earth weathering on the lower chassis, wheels, and underside
Tip: Apply a thin wash of Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color (Dark Brown or Black) over the green body panels after the base coat dries to bring out the fine engraved surface detail on the launcher rails and truck body.
