Undefeated ROAR National Champion
The Team Associated RC10GT was a revolutionary vehicle in the world of RC racing. Released in 1993 as a nitro-powered stadium truck, it built upon the legacy of Team Associated's earlier successes with electric models like the RC10 buggy. Its robust chassis, advanced suspension system, and excellent power-to-weight ratio made it a favourite among enthusiasts and racers alike.
When the RC10GT hit the market, it merged the excitement of nitro power with the precision and handling of competitive racing vehicles. Early RTR models featured a 0.12 cubic inch engine and came pre-assembled or as kits without an engine, allowing users to customise their build or get straight into the action.
Throughout its production run, the RC10GT went undefeated with numerous ROAR Gas Truck National Championship titles. Drivers like Brian Kinwald, Cliff Lett, Richard Saxton, Billy Easton, Mark Pavidis, and Jared Tebo helped cement the RC10GT's reputation as a top-tier racing truck.
Despite its success, the RC10GT was eventually discontinued in the mid-2000s as brushless electric systems began to shift market demand. However, it remains a beloved classic — one of the vehicles that defined the nitro stadium truck era. Today it enjoys a cult following among collectors and vintage RC enthusiasts. Painting Guide – 1993 Box Art Colour Scheme
The RC10GT Gold Edition body is a clear Polycarbonate (Lexan) shell. To replicate the iconic 1993 box art livery — a retro orange-yellow main body with multi-coloured geometric racing stripes — use Tamiya PS (Polycarbonate) spray paints applied from the inside of the shell.
⚠️ Important: Do not use TS or XF paints on the polycarbonate body — they are not formulated for Lexan and will crack or peel.
Main Body Canvas
- PS-19 Camel Yellow – The core body colour. Team Associated confirms this is the closest Tamiya match to their original custom-blended box art hue. Apply 3–4 light coats for best coverage.
- PS-62 Pure Orange – Pro tinting tip: after your Camel Yellow coats, add 1–2 very light dustings of Pure Orange to deepen the tone and add warmth, matching the slightly darker original box art hue.
- PS-12 Silver – Alternative tinting option: a light dusting over Camel Yellow adds depth and prevents colour bleed-through.
Accent Stripes (Swoops)
Use fine line masking tape to block out the geometric stripe pattern running down the sides and hood. Spray in the following order:
- PS-33 Cherry Red – Deepest red racing stripe borders
- PS-3 Light Blue – Retro blue swoops that contrast against the yellow body (note: PS-23 Light Blue is not currently stocked — PS-3 Light Blue is the closest available alternative)
- PS-1 White – Crisp white divider lines and numbering backers
Mandatory Backing & Engine Detail
- PS-1 White – After all detail colours and the Camel Yellow base, back the entire inner shell with white. PS paints are translucent — a white backing coat makes exterior colours vibrant, opaque, and uniform.
- PS-5 Black – Apply to the inner truck bed area behind the cab to simulate the dark, exposed mechanical chassis look typical of nitro truck bodies.
Masking Tape
The RC10GT's geometric stripe pattern requires sharp, precise lines. Use flexible curve tape to seal stripe borders first, then fill large areas with standard tape to prevent bleed on the Lexan shell.
